Gaunt
Face

Face Concerns

Restore Softness, Balance & Healthy Fullness. Significant facial thinning can make the face look tired, hollow or older than you feel. With advanced regenerative treatments, we can rebuild structure, restore balance and support your natural features.

What is a gaunt face?

Facial volume loss can be deeply unsettling. Patients often describe feeling like their face has ‘collapsed’, ‘aged overnight’ or no longer reflects their personality. This emotional disconnect is real — and it is one of the most common reasons people seek help.

A gaunt face involves loss of fat, collagen and structural support. It can create hollowing in the cheeks, temples and under-eye area; sharper, more angular features; thinner or looser skin; and a tired or aged appearance even when you feel well.

Solutions for gaunt face

Dermal Fillers
BIOSTIMULATORS
RELIFE THREADS
POLYNUCLEOTIDES & SUNEKOS

Carefully placed dermal fillers can replace lost volume, restore cheek contour, support the under-eye area and improve facial balance. They are used strategically to restore support — not to overfill.

Sculptra and Juläine® gradually rebuild collagen, improve skin thickness and elasticity, and restore natural fullness without heaviness. They can be particularly helpful for weight-loss or Ozempic-related facial atrophy.

Relife Threads provide subtle lift and tissue repositioning, stimulate collagen along the thread pathway, and are best suited where tissue descent — rather than pure volume loss — is the main concern.

Polynucleotides and Sunekos improve skin quality, support fibroblast activity, reduce crepiness and fine lines, and enhance the results of volume-restoring treatments.

What causes facial volume loss?

CAUSES & TRIGGERS

Facial volume loss usually develops because multiple layers age at once — including bone, fat pads, ligaments, muscle and skin. Collagen, elastin and facial fat gradually decline, while changes to the underlying bone reduce support and contribute to hollowing, sagging and loss of definition.

Genetics, significant weight loss, hormonal changes and certain health conditions can also affect facial volume. If facial hollowing appears suddenly or without an obvious explanation, we may recommend speaking to your GP before beginning aesthetic treatment.

Treatment Planned Around Your Face

Treating a
gaunt face

Patients often describe feeling that they look unwell, older than their age, or that their face has lost softness. Some avoid photos or feel that facial ageing has overshadowed their weight-loss success. Facial volume loss is treatable, but it requires a thoughtful, layered approach.

Treatment may focus on rebuilding deep support, restoring mid-face and temple volume, stimulating collagen and elastin, improving skin quality and softening harsh lines and shadows. Polynucleotides or Sunekos may support skin quality, while Relife Threads may be considered where tissue descent — rather than pure volume loss — is the main concern.

Your plan will depend on where volume has been lost, the condition of your skin and your goals. In cases of severe atrophy, we may recommend surgical intervention if non-surgical options cannot achieve a safe or realistic outcome.

Common Questions

How does treatment improve a gaunt face?

Treatment is planned to rebuild deep structural support, restore mid-face and temple volume, stimulate collagen and elastin, improve skin quality and soften harsh lines and shadows. Combination therapy may be recommended to achieve a natural, long-lasting result.

Will treatment make me look overfilled?

No — the aim is to restore softness, support and balance while preserving your natural facial shape and expressions. Dermal fillers are used strategically to replace lost volume, not to create an overfilled appearance.

Which treatments may be recommended?

Depending on your facial structure and pattern of volume loss, your plan may include dermal fillers, Sculptra or Juläine® biostimulators, Polynucleotides or Sunekos, and Relife Threads where tissue descent is also present.

What if my facial volume loss is severe?

In cases of severe atrophy, non-surgical treatment may not be able to achieve a safe or realistic outcome. If this applies to you, we will be honest and may recommend that you consider surgical intervention instead.

Are the results immediate?

Dermal fillers provide an immediate improvement, although swelling may initially affect the final appearance. Sculptra and Julaine® work more gradually as new collagen develops over the following weeks and months.
