Laser & IPL Treatments in Dunfermline

Laser & IPL Treatments

Explore light-based treatments for hair reduction, tattoo fading and selected skin concerns including visible vessels, pigmentation, rosacea and acne.

What Are Laser & IPL Treatments?

Targeted Light

Light energy is used differently to target hair pigment, tattoo ink, visible vessels or areas of pigmentation.

Laser and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatments use light energy in different ways depending on what is being treated. At Hart, these treatments include laser hair removal, laser tattoo removal and IPL for concerns such as visible facial vessels, pigmentation, rosacea and acne.

The technology and treatment approach differ according to the target. For example, hair removal targets pigment within the hair, while tattoo removal targets ink particles and IPL can be used to target visible vessels or pigmentation.

Multiple Treatments

Hart offers laser hair removal, tattoo removal and IPL treatments for a range of skin concerns.

Patch Testing

Patch testing is used before treatment where appropriate to assess how your skin responds.

Treatment Courses

Some laser and IPL treatments require several sessions, with the number needed varying between individuals.

Understanding the Treatment Target

Different Targets, Different Treatments

Laser and IPL are not a single treatment used in the same way for every concern. Hair removal directs light towards pigment in the hair, tattoo removal targets ink particles, while vascular and pigmentation treatments use light to target different structures within the skin. Understanding what needs to be targeted helps determine which treatment approach is appropriate for you.

Common Questions

Which laser and IPL treatments do you offer?

We offer laser hair removal, laser tattoo removal and IPL treatments for a range of skin concerns. Our IPL treatments can be used for concerns including pigmentation, visible facial vessels, rosacea and acne. We also offer laser removal of semi-permanent eyebrow pigment where suitable.

Is laser hair removal permanent?

We describe laser hair removal as long-term hair reduction rather than permanent hair removal. Most people require a course of treatments initially, and occasional maintenance sessions may be recommended. Because the laser targets pigment within the hair, white and grey hairs cannot be effectively treated.

How does laser tattoo removal work?

We use Q-Switched laser technology to target the pigment within tattoo ink. The laser breaks the pigment into smaller particles, which are then gradually dispersed by the body. Tattoos fade progressively between sessions, so a course of treatments is usually needed rather than a single appointment.

What can IPL be used for?

We use IPL for several different skin concerns, including pigmentation, visible facial vessels, rosacea and acne. It may also be suitable for some superficial leg vessels. We will assess the area first to determine whether IPL or another treatment approach is appropriate.

Will I need a patch test?

For many of our laser and IPL treatments, we carry out a patch test before your first full treatment. This allows us to see how your skin responds and helps us plan your treatment appropriately. We will explain any preparation you need to follow at your consultation.

What does laser or IPL treatment feel like?

The sensation varies depending on the treatment and the area being treated. You may notice a brief hot, pinching or elastic-band-like sensation as the light energy is delivered. Where appropriate, we can use cooling during treatment to help make the experience more comfortable.
