Microsclerotherapy in Dunfermline

Treatment for Leg Thread Veins

A treatment for small thread, spider and broken veins on the legs, with appropriate aftercare and follow-up at Hart.

What Is Microsclerotherapy?

Leg Vein Treatment

Microsclerotherapy is used for small thread, spider and broken veins that appear on the legs.

Microsclerotherapy is used to treat small thread, spider and broken veins on the legs. These fine but visible vessels sit close to the surface of the skin and often form branching patterns.

Treatment involves several small injection points and is carried out in the clinic. Afterwards, compression stockings need to be worn for a period of time and we will arrange a follow-up appointment to review the treated area.

In-Clinic Procedure

Treatment involves several small injection points and you can leave the clinic afterwards.

Compression Aftercare

Compression stockings are required for at least one to two weeks following treatment.

Follow-Up Review

We arrange an important follow-up appointment around two weeks after your initial treatment.

Which Veins Can Be Treated?

Understanding Visible Veins

Visible veins can look similar, but the appropriate treatment depends on their type and location. Microsclerotherapy is used at Hart for thread and spider veins on the legs. Facial vessels are treated differently, while varicose veins require specialist vascular treatment.

Facial Thread Veins

Visible vessels on the face require a different approach; at Hart, these are treated using IPL rather than microsclerotherapy.

Choosing the Appropriate Treatment

Not Every Visible Vein Is the Same

The location and type of visible vein matter when deciding how it should be treated. At Hart, we use microsclerotherapy for thread and spider veins on the legs, while facial vessels are treated using IPL. Varicose veins are different again and should be assessed and treated by a vascular specialist. We will help establish which route is appropriate before treatment is recommended.

Common Questions

What does microsclerotherapy treat?

We use microsclerotherapy for small thread, spider and broken veins on the legs. These are usually fine, visible vessels sitting close to the surface of the skin and may form branching patterns similar to a spider’s web.

Is microsclerotherapy suitable for varicose veins?

No. We do not use microsclerotherapy to treat varicose veins. Varicose veins are larger, swollen veins that can appear bulging or twisted and require a different type of assessment and treatment. The current Hart guidance recommends seeing a vascular surgeon for these veins.

Can you treat thread veins on the face?

Yes, but we use a different treatment for facial vessels. At Hart, microsclerotherapy is used for thread veins on the legs, while visible facial vessels are treated using IPL. We can discuss the appropriate option depending on where your concern is located.

Does microsclerotherapy hurt?

The procedure involves several small injection points, so you may experience some discomfort during treatment. A topical agent can be used to help minimise this. How the treatment feels will vary from person to person.

What should I expect after microsclerotherapy?

The treated veins can initially look more noticeable before beginning to fade. Temporary redness, swelling and bruising may also occur and can take anywhere from several days to a few weeks to settle. We will explain what to expect and how to care for the area after treatment.

Will I need to wear compression stockings?

Yes. Our current guidance requires compression stockings to be worn for at least one to two weeks following microsclerotherapy. We will explain when and how they should be worn as part of your aftercare advice.
